With the TopGolf craze sweeping the nation – and several areas of Atlanta – a competitor is entering the market, and they’re planning a location in Marietta.
Drive Shack, which follows a very similar mold to TopGolf (three levels of hitting bays, hit balls into targets to score points while eating bar food), has been approved to build on 17.18 acres of land along the Franklin Gateway Corridor, according to AJC.com.
It’ll cost between $20 million and $25 million to build the facility in Cobb County, the City of Marietta told AJC.com. It’s expected to bring 450 jobs to the area.
Drive Shack is completing construction on its first location in Orlando, and its Twitter page suggests they are in the process of hiring staff for the facility. Past reports said the Orlando location was expected to open in January, but the company’s website simply says it will debut in “Early 2018.”
No announcement has been made about when the Marietta facility is expected to open. Additional Drive Shack locations are planned for West Palm Beach, Raleigh and Richmond, according to the company’s website.
A major revitalization effort is underway to give Franklin Gateway a facelift. Atlanta United opened its practice facility along the corridor last year, and Ikea has announced plans to build its second Atlanta-area store along Franklin Gateway.Follow @Sean_Breslin
