It has been 20 years since Atlanta imploded a major sports stadium, and this time, a city landmark wants you to have a great view as the Georgia Dome is brought down in pieces.
Located in downtown Atlanta, the Westin’s Sun Dial Restaurant, Bar and View will host a unique implosion viewing party on the morning of Monday, Nov. 20. Located 723 feet above Peachtree Street, the views from the restaurant will be among the best available for this momentous occasion in Atlanta history.
According to the event’s Facebook page, tickets are being sold for $50 per person and reservations must be made in advance by calling 404-589-7506. Pastries and coffee will be served as onlookers watch the stadium collapse on itself. You know, as some Atlanta teams are known to do.
But there’s a catch of which you should be fully aware before you call to book: the Sun Dial isn’t guaranteeing everyone who buys a ticket will get a prime viewing location for the event.
The implosion is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. and the Sun Dial will open its doors at 6:45 a.m.
Note: A previous version of this article said the restaurant rotates. After an incident in April that resulted in a child’s death, the rotating feature was not turned back on. This has been removed from the article.Follow @Sean_Breslin
