On the evening of March 30, Atlantans pondered the unthinkable: could the city be forced to go without one of its major highways all summer, if not longer, after a fire collapsed a major stretch of Interstate 85?
About a month and a half later, the interstate is scheduled to be reopened Monday morning – an ahead-of-schedule opening of the bridge that pleasantly surprised much of the city.
Seven days before I-85 is expected to reopen, the Georgia Department of Transportation released a video documenting the construction project from start to finish. It starts with the days immediately after the demolition and goes all the way through May 8. Now, all that’s left is to paint the lines and release traffic on the brand-new bridge.
