On this Thanksgiving Day, here’s a look back at a historic site in Atlanta, before it became a historic site.
The image above shows Peachtree Street at the current location of the Fox Theatre, looking south. When this image was captured in 1864, the site of the now-historic landmark was a Confederate fort.

According to the Library of Congress, this is the first known image of Peachtree Street. If you’d like to read more about the Battle of Atlanta, I highly recommend this piece from AJC.com that takes you back 151 years and gives a full recap of the events that unfolded.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. I am extremely thankful for each and every one of you who stop by the site, whether you’re a first-time reader or a long-time supporter, to check out my ramblings about the finest city in America. I take none of you for granted, and it’s been a pleasure writing for you since 2009.
Enjoy the turkey!
