10 Instagram accounts all Atlantans should be following

Atlanta is one of America’s most underrated cities in terms of the artists we have that call our town home. That includes the photographers that are capturing our city in pictures and showing us the Capital of the South from every angle.

Instagram has helped expose these stellar photographers to our city, but also to the rest of the world. If your IG feed is lacking some top-notch photography, pick up your phone and follow these 10 accounts pronto.

1. @amodernghost

www.amodernghost.com goes live September 1st. 💡

A post shared by Ryan Vizzions (REDHAWK) (@ryanvizzions) on

Street photographer Ryan Vizzions shares his view of our fine city with shots that are full of imagination, leaving his fans wondering what will come next. Then, when you think you’ve seen it all, he mixes color in a way that brings you yet another view of Atlanta you never thought you’d see.

2. @5ps_

The place to be

A post shared by Evan 5PS (@evan5ps) on

This guy runs an account that I would put up against any photographer in the world. It’s that good. Evan not only shoots from amazing vantage points all over the city, he’ll get up in a helicopter and take pictures like the one above, too.

You’ll also see his work on rap albums; he has worked with rappers like Future and Trinidad James. Evan is everywhere, and if you really like his pictures, you can also buy prints of his greatest hits.

3. @anasantosphoto

Nature put on a good show tonight. ⚡️ • • • #100happydays #100localdays #day74 #weloveatl #exploregeorgia

A post shared by Ana Santos | Atlanta, GA (@anasantosphoto) on

Ana Santos is a mobile content producer for AJC.com, and her IG account is a shining star of Atlanta photography. I have a sneaking suspicion that she has a hand in the magic of the next account on my list …

4. @ajcnews

AJC News is the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s main account on Instagram, and, unsurprisingly, does a great job mixing stunning photography with the news of the day. It’s a good way to keep up with the city’s biggest stories while allowing your timeline to be filled with really solid imagery.

5. @coolatlanta

little five points + local beer.

A post shared by Cool Atlanta (@coolatlanta) on

There’s an artistic edge to this account, and you never know what’ll come next. Many of the other accounts on this list show the big picture, but Cool Atlanta drills down and highlights specific markets or restaurants, or even one item on an eatery’s menu. I’ve even been introduced to a new restaurant or two by this account.

6. @atlantahistorycenter

Atlanta is a city of such unforgettable history. The Atlanta History Center helps us remember, and this blossoming page shares daily images of our past. Even out-of-towners can learn a lot about Atlanta from this account.

7. @wsbtvcameraman

While covering events and breaking news, the cameramen of WSB-TV see all sides of our city every day. Justin gives us his best shots from assignments and also holds a contest every Friday where he posts the best photo that has been sent to him during the previous week.

8. @weloveatl

If there’s one account that can match your love of Atlanta, this is it. A follow for #WeLoveATL is a decision to learn more about the incredible landscapes of our city, as well as the people. You’ll learn a lot about the people.

9. @georgiaaquarium

High fives from our southern sea #otters for a great playdate with our trainers!

A post shared by Georgia Aquarium (@georgiaaquarium) on

Adorable sea creatures are a favorite of this land-locked city, and nobody does it better than the Georgia Aquarium. Their Instagram account is pretty stellar, too, so if you want to see the animals up-close without having to visit the aquarium every day, this account is a must-follow.

BONUS: If aquariums aren’t your thing, Zoo Atlanta also has a fantastic account.

10. @texturl

This is Tucky. She wears flowers and blows fire.

A post shared by Brandon Barr (@texturl) on

Brandon Barr clearly has a thing for people. His page is like “Humans of New York,” but with even more brevity. You’ll learn something about your fellow citizens because Barr is eager to tell you. It doesn’t hurt that he’s a fantastic photographer. Follow this account.
