Atlanta’s newest pro sports franchise will finally have a name and logo on Tuesday, July 7.
MLS Atlanta – a new Major League Soccer franchise that will play its first season in 2017 – sent an email announcement to all who have committed to buy tickets for the opening year, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution confirmed. In that email, the franchise informed “founding members” that the name and logo will be revealed during a closed event for the future season ticket holders.
“The franchise said it hoped to reveal its name before the semifinals of the Gold Cup are held at the Georgia Dome on July 22,” the report added.
MLS Atlanta also sent the following tweet:
Red, black and gold as the team’s official colors? Possibly, but this has been the same color scheme as presented at previous events.
A nod to the Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets? Crazier things have happened.
As for the team name, it’s still anybody’s guess. We’ll find out for sure in a little under a month.
After this big announcement will come the team uniform reveal, though there is no date for that event yet.
If you’d like to join the franchise’s Founders Club, you can do that on their website.
