The Hawks now have the longest winning streak in Atlanta sports history

The 2014-15 Atlanta Hawks are officially the hottest team in the history of Atlanta sports.

Of the teams that have played in this city in the four major sports, the Hawks’ current 16-game winning streak is the longest ever. The incredible stat is courtesy of Atlanta sports personality Mike Conti.

According to Conti, the 2000 Braves previously held the record with 15 consecutive victories. The Falcons’ longest streak was 11 straight in 1998, and the Thrashers won six in a row in 2009.

From those three streaks, only one team made it to the championship (the ’98 Falcons), and none of those teams ended up winning a title. That’s why this jaw-dropping run by the Hawks has been nice, but not enough to declare this team the best in Atlanta sports history, or even the best in Hawks history. They must make a deep run into the playoffs and get to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time ever.

Amazingly, just two months ago, this team had virtually no expectations, and now, it’s championship or bust.

Funny how fast these things can change.
